Apart from the dreaded month of August, Harry Kane has been in the best form of his life this year. This sensational run of form has impressed a lot of people and as with every great talent that goes on this kind of run of form, the dreaded question comes up.
Is he as good as Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi ?
You have to admit, at first glance Kane’s stats for 2017 would warrant such a question being asked. Scoring 43 times in 37 appearances for club and country is pretty much Messi and Ronaldo territory but I think we should pump the breaks on comparing him with those two because well…its quite frankly, silly.
Kane is a fantastic player with tremendous talent and a great work ethic but we’re not doing him any favors by comparing him with two players who will most likely go down as the best two players of all time. I mean Messi is the only player in history to score 40+ club goals in 8 consecutive seasons and Roanldo had 4 consecutive years in which he scored 60 or more goals in a calendar year. That’s just two of the many ridiculous records they hold.
Can you see why we’re not doing Kane any favors by asking that question?
Kane is great but you can’t compare him to the big two when he hasn’t even proved himself to the best player at his position in the world today. Sure he’s probably on the best run of form right now out of all the top number 9’s but can you honestly say Kane is better than an in form Luis Suarez or Robert Lewandowski ?
I also think Romelu Lukaku and Sergio Aguero might have something to say about Kane being the premier league’s best striker.
